Mary Keane

Obituary of Mary J. Keane

Mary Jean Keane, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 3rd, 2022 surrounded by her children. She was 85 years old. She was born on June 21, 1936 in Cavan, Ireland; the daughter of the late Philip and Mary McDermott. She married the love of her life, Michael Joseph Keane on January 4, 1958 in Quebec Canada and later settled in Queens, NY, and then Newburgh, NY where they raised their three children. They shared 58 years of marriage together before Michael's passing in March, 2016. Mary was the operator and owner of Mary and Mike's Bar and Restaurant in Newburgh, NY for 36 years. She was also a homemaker. Mary loved cooking for her family and the customers on the bar. They all called her "Mom." She was loved by so many. Mary adored spending time with her family, particularly her one and only granddaughter Kaylee who was the apple of her eye. She enjoyed reading the newspaper, listening to her scanner at night, and she absolutely loved the holidays. She is survived by her children; son Michael Keane of Newburgh, NY, son John Keane of Newburgh NY, son Brian Keane and his wife, Kathy Keane of Newburgh NY, as well as her only granddaughter, Kaylee Keane. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Joseph Keane. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the foundation of her family. She touched so many lives. She gave love unconditionally without asking for anything back in return. She would go without so others were taken care of. She made all her sons the individuals they are today. Love is a sacrifice, and she exhibited that sacrifice throughout her lifetime, thinking always of others, first. Those who knew her will say that they were blessed beyond measure to have been the recipients of her love and kindness. She will never be forgotten. We look forward to that day when we once again will be reunited with her. Funeral services and burial are private.
