Edward E. Mackey Sr. passed away on December 27th at his home. He was 75 years old. Edward was born on March 3, 1946 in Milton, New York. Ed was the son of George Frederick Mackey Sr. and Ruth Ennest Mackey. Ed was an Engineer and worked at IBM for 28 years. While at IBM, Ed worked with NASA to build the onboard computers for the Apollo and Mercery Missions. He also worked for St. Francis Hospital as an ER Tech and in Occupational Health for 16 years. Ed volunteered and was recognized for over 50 years of service with the Milton Fire Engine Company Number 1. He also served the community of Marlborough as an EMT with the Town of Marlboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps. for over 12 years. Ed was a member of the Hudson Valley Umpire Association for over 10 years. In the 70's and 80's, Ed was active with the Boy Scouts of America including time as a Head Scout Master. Ed also coached for several years with Marlboro Youth Baseball. Survivors include his wife Barbara Mackey (New Paltz), his eldest son Edward E. Mackey Jr. and his wife Christine (Marlboro), his youngest son Daniel Mackey and his wife Tonja Nantz-Mackey (Greensboro, NC), Stepson George Johnson and his wife Sara (Cincinnati, Ohio), Stepdaughter Dawn Johnson (Highland), Stepdaughter Amy Tansey and Brian Leonard (Hyde Park). Grandchildren; Nicholas Mackey, Sarah Mackey, Nikki Layton, John Johnson, James Johnson, Jayden Cipriani, Nathan Ritter, Blake Leonard, Morgan Leonard, and Taegan Leonard Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved hooking up his camper and exploring the country. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, baseball, particularly the New York Yankees. Ed loved to take cruises, his most memorable trip being to Alaska. Ed was an avid rail fan enthusiast and would frequently spend time watching trains go by especially at the Old Milton Train Station. In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to Milton Fire Engine Company Number 1 Calling Hours will be held Thursday, December 30th from 5pm - 8pm at the DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Route 9W, Marlboro. Funeral Service will take place at 7pm on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the spring. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc.
