Domenico Benanti passed away on Sunday morning, November 28, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie, New York. He was 81 years old. Domenico was born in January, 1940 in Bolognetta, Sicily, Italy. He was the son of Salvatore and Rosaria Benanti. Domenico was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and godfather who will be missed by many friends and family members. For most of his life, Domenico lived and worked in Italy where he served in the infantry of the Italian Military in 1958. He married his loving wife Rosalia Mini at Parocchia Maria Santissima del Carmelo in Bolognetta in September, 1967. Domenico made a living supporting his family as a building cleaner in Palermo until 1972. He came to the United States with his wife and son in 1972 where he worked in a dye house factory in New Jersey until 1983. He returned to Sicily with his wife, son and daughter where he continued as a building cleaner and was an accomplished home farmer known for taking care of his garden and growing a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables. He returned with his wife in 1996 to Lodi, New Jersey to rejoin his children who already moved back to the United States. In 2004, Domenico and his wife moved to Marlboro, New York where he made his permanent residence. Domenico was a strong fighter who survived many ailments throughout his life and continued to greet you with a warm smile. He battled bravely through and survived lymphoma and colon cancer, and most recently kidney failure. Domenico enjoyed playing Bocce and Scopa and visiting with his family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife Rosalia Benanti of Marlboro, his son Salvatore Benanti and his wife Melinda of Marlboro, his daughter Rosaria Guttilla and her husband Giuseppe of Milton, his five grandchildren Carlo, Anthony, Alex, Sophia and Luca. Domenico was predeceased by his sister Giovanna and is survived by his siblings, Maria Antonia, Vincenzo, Ottavio, Melina and Giuseppe as well as his many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Calling hours will be at DiDonato Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Church in Marlboro, New York at 10:30 am on Wednesday followed by burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, New York.
