Obituary of Anne Sweeney

Anne Marie Sweeney, 70, of Newburgh, NY passed away peacefully on June 13, 2018.

Anne Marie, affectionately known as "Susie", was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on January 17, 1948. She was one of 7 children of Theodore and Margaret Routhier. Sue married her husband Richard in 1969, whom she met at the top of the Empire State Building in a chance encounter. Sue enjoyed spending time with her family, playing and watching sports and dancing and laughing with loved ones. Her favorite pastime was being a loving and playful Memere to her three grandchildren.

Sue was a line-drive hitter, all-star shortstop, fearless volleyball player, automatic quarterback for her children and their neighborhood friends, exceptional dancer, and always the life of the party.

Sue was loved by many and a friend to all she encountered. Her generous spirit endeared her to many family and friends.

Sue dedicated over 30 years of her life to the children of Beacon City School district as a school bus driver, most recently to special needs children.

Her greatest achievement was teaching all those who knew her the meaning of unconditional love.

Above all, to her two children, Rick and Renee, she was the center of the universe.

Sue is survived by her husband of 49 years, Richard Sweeney of Newburgh, NY; her son Rick Sweeney and his wife Michelle of Ridgefield, CT; her daughter Renee Rafferty and husband Brian and grandchildren Colin, Keira, and Gavin, of Wilton, CT; her brothers Emil Routhier and his wife Susan of Holliston, MA, and Don Routhier and his wife Nina of Ashburn, VA; sisters Helen Flis and her husband John of Colchester, CT and Diane Routhier of Middletown, CT; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Theodore, mother Margaret, stepfather Roy, her brother Theodore Jr., and sister Lorraine.
