Obituary of Mamie Pastorella

Mamie Cardella Pastorella, 84, of Marlboro, NY, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 21st, 2018 at home with her loving family at her side. Born June 20, 1933 in Palermo, Sicily. She was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Rosa Cardella. Mamie was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas Pastorella whom she adored.

Mamie lived in Sicily until the age of 17, marrying the love of her life Thomas Pastorella, married 51 years. She lived for a short time in the Bronx, residing in Marlboro, NY for 67 years. Mamie's entire life revolved around her family, taking such pride in teaching all her holiday traditions. She was an amazing cook and loved to entertain, always welcoming all to her home. Her specialties were her pizza and her Italian cookies. She loved gardening, canning her tomatoes and taking care of others.

Mamie worked at Penny Bags, VSD, both in Newburgh, NY. She retired from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY after 15 years as a seamstress, taking pride in making the cadet uniforms.

Mamie spent her retirement years as a health aide taking care of many in the community.

Her adoring family includes her beloved sister Josephine Grill (Barry), son Thomas Pastorella (Janice) and daughter Santa Gaudioso (Philip), grandchildren; Philip Gaudioso (Lupe), Jeanna Martinelli (Michael), Thomas Pastorella, Jr., her great grandson Angelo Martinelli, the love of her life and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mamie is preceded in death by her brother Carl Cardella.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3pm-6pm at the DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Route 9W, Marlboro.

A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday morning at 10:30am at St. Mary's Church, 1209 Route 9W, Marlboro.

Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Marlboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
